Gear up for the first debate with UW experts at September 24 talk

MADISON, Wis. – The first presidential debate will be Tuesday, September 29. What should you look for when it comes to the big issues? UW-Madison experts share their insights on Thursday, September 24, at 5 p.m. in a virtual Crossroads of Ideas discussion moderated by Veronica Rueckert of UW Communications.

Rueckert says, “The first presidential debate usually represents a key moment in the election season. This Crossroads of Ideas panel will preview the first debate and zero in on areas like presidential rhetoric past and present, the theatre of debate, and foundational issues like the Black Lives Matter Movement, COVID-19 and the economy.”

The Crossroads of Ideas program is a public lecture series that addresses vital social science topics. The series generally is held in-person at the Discovery Building on the UW-Madison campus. More at discovery.wisc.edu/crossroads.

“The Crossroads of Ideas series aims to engage the campus and community around issues of pressing importance in our lives that are also the subject of research at UW-Madison,” says Laura Heisler, WARF director of programming. “In this session, we’ll be getting a range of perspectives on the first presidential debate from experts focused on the Black Lives Matter movement, the COVID-19 pandemic, the theatrics of debates and the overarching forces guiding our current politics. It’s hard to imagine a better way to gear up for the first debate.”
