Are faculty, staff and students required to assign inventions or intellectual property rights to WARF?

No, UW-Madison faculty, staff and students are not obligated to assign their intellectual property to WARF unless required by federal law or the terms of a UW contract with a third party. Depending on the equity review findings (i.e. no federal funding used), it might be up to you whether or not you want to assign IP rights to WARF and work with us on patenting.
